Almost every driver knows someone who has had a crash or near collision with a deer. The number of deer and other large quadrupeds crossing our nations highways are increasing every year.
In Ohio alone there are nearly 30,000 vehicle/deer crashes reported annually. In Michigan that number jumps to near 60,000 and in Minnesota, to over 80,000.
With good Image detection and alarm….collision avoidance for the vehicle operator becomes more likely and crashes can be averted.
Popular auto manufacturers have designed new automatic braking systems that are capable of using collision avoidance sensors. On board auto satellite systems could warn motorists of animal on the highway when coupled with roadside detection systems.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration
estimates there are approximately 1.5 million
auto / deer collisions per year, resulting in damage
losses to owners of around $1.5 billion annually.
Over 150 lives are lost each year in deer / vehicle
crashes. Early detection and warning of animal
presence will allow drivers time to react and
avoid a crash.
